Job summary

City of Kings Mountain seeks a Wastewater Operator in Training / Operator I to accurately monitor and operate our facilities. You will learn plant processes, collect samples, and ensure regulatory compliance while maintaining records and safety protocols.

The role supports training toward North Carolina Grade I certification and requires a valid NC driver’s license. We offer a full-time, non-exempt position with a strong focus on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Apprenticeship/internship or 1–2 years of related experience is acceptable.
• On-the-job training is available for candidates without wastewater experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment processes to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Record operational parameters accurately to document procedures.
• Perform maintenance on plant equipment and uphold safety standards.
• Communicate with the Chief Operator and team to coordinate changes.
• Support certification progression toward North Carolina Grade I Biological Water Pollution Control System Operator.
