Job summary

City of Madison Water Utility is seeking a Public Works Maintenance Worker 2 to perform varied public works tasks such as custodial work, vehicle cleaning, inspection of water system problems, and operating valves to control water flow. You will communicate with staff to manage issues and notify the public about outages and resolutions, while keeping clear maintenance records. Work shifts run 10:00 a.m.

to 6:00 p.m. and the city promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience in public works construction, maintenance work, custodial and building maintenance, or repair work.
• Two (2) years of experience in applying: tools, equipment, and technique used in public works maintenance work - custodial, vehicle cleaning, and water system maintenance; water systems; safety precautions; computer software applicable to the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

• Custodial and janitorial tasks.
• Cleaning of vehicles.
• Inspecting and assessing reported water system problems.
• Operating valves to control water flow.
• Notifying the public about water supply problems and resolutions.
• Communicating with Leadworker, Supervisor and Operator to manage system problems.
• Working with staff to correct system problems.
• Lead and train other staff in work assignments.
• Maintain records of work performed.
• Respond to reports of water system problems and take corrective action.
