Job summary

Honolulu Board of Water Supply is seeking a Water Systems Operator II to monitor and control Oahu's island-wide water system from the control center, using telemetering and SCADA. The role involves real-time operational decisions affecting pumping, reservoirs, and pressures, with leadership duties including supervising staff and coordinating field responses.

The position requires prior experience in electric pumping plant operation and a Hawaii DSO Grade IV Certification.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising staff, assigning work and providing clear instructions.
• Hands-on operation of electrically driven pumping equipment and system controls.
• Familiarity with pumping station machinery and system components.
• Practical understanding of electricity and hydraulics as applied to water systems.
• Skill in reading meters, gauges and recording data.
• Strong safety mindset when handling electrical pumping equipment.
• Ability to build positive working relationships and coordinate teams.

Responsibilities

• Monitor island-wide pumping operations and reservoir levels.
• Analyze telemeter data to detect abnormal system behavior and take action.
• Manage well production to maintain water quality and reliability.
• Coordinate and dispatch field crews for investigations and emergencies.
• Execute procedures during main breaks, equipment failures, and shortages.
• Supervise and train staff ensuring safety and procedures compliance.
