The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) is seeking a skilled and dependable professional for a Water Systems Operator II position to help operate and safeguard Oahu's island-wide water system. This position is responsible for monitoring and controlling system operations from the control center using telemetering and supervisory control systems to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water. The role exercises independent judgment in making real-time operational decisions affecting pumping, reservoir levels, system pressures, and overall distribution performance. Leadership responsibilities include supervising and training staff, and coordinating field response efforts during system irregularities and emergency conditions.

What You\'ll Do
  • Monitor and control island-wide pumping operations, reservoir levels, and distribution pressures
  • Analyze telemeter data to detect abnormal system behavior and implement corrective action
  • Manage well production to maintain water quality standards and protect source sustainability
  • Coordinate and dispatch field crews for investigations, repairs, emergencies, and service interruptions
  • Execute established operational procedures during major main breaks, equipment failures, and critical water shortages
  • Supervise and train assigned personnel while ensuring compliance with safety standards, operational procedures, and departmental policies
Special Working Conditions
  • Work Schedule: Eight hours per day, five days per week, on one of the following work shifts: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the operation of electrically-driven water pumping plant equipment.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Current State of Hawaii Distribution System Operator (DSO) Grade IV Certification.
