Job summary

City of Provo is hiring a Water Systems Maintenance Operator (App. - IV) to maintain and operate the water distribution system. The position includes skilled maintenance, meter work, and safety compliance in a full-time role.

Compensation ranges from $24.25 to $40.64 per hour, with employer-paid health insurance, retirement plans, paid leaves, and a 4/10 work schedule. Applications close 09/08; screening begins 09/09/2026.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and a Flagger certificate must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Operator I requires one year of professional water operator experience and Grade I certificate; CDL required.
• Operator II/III require 2–3 years of experience and Grade II/III certificates; CDL required.
• Operator IV requires four years of experience, cross-training, leadership courses, and a CDL with Hazmat and Grade IV certificate.

Responsibilities

• Apprentice Operator assists with excavation, installation, maintenance, and testing of water mains and meters.
• Operator I performs trenching, leak repairs, meter installations, and basic operations.
• Operator II/III perform complex tasks, supervise others, and maintain records.
• Operator IV acts as crew supervisor, leads major projects, and trains lower-level staff.
