Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking a Water Maintenance Support Worker in Salt Lake City, UT. Under supervision, you operate equipment such as dump trucks and backhoes to support water system maintenance and emergency work.

You will perform routine and complex tasks, keep records, and coordinate with dispatch and contractors to ensure safe, efficient operations. Required qualifications include CDL Class A, ability to respond to emergencies, and experience with heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of hand and small power tools and ability to perform field labor.
• Ability to respond to emergencies including 24-hr call-out.
• Ability to prepare simple inventory forms.
• Ability to relate well with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
• CDL Class A license and endorsements as required.
• Three years of paid water system maintenance experience.
• Two years of experience operating heavy equipment (backhoes, dump trucks, loaders).
• Certification in Confined Space Entry, Trench and Shoring (Competent Person), Flagging and Traffic Control Device Placement, and Forklift Operation.
• UDOT physical requirements compliance.
• Desired: Water Distribution Operator IV certification.

Responsibilities

• Check signs, barricades and road plates each shift; ensure lights and barriers are in proper working order.
• If work is complete, request removal of safety devices; if partial, coordinate with dispatch for partial pickup.
• Record safety work orders and actions taken; fax updates to barricades company as needed.
• Maintain daily lists of jobs-in-progress and inspections; inform supervisor of any hazards.
• Assist in repairing and replacing pipes, mains, valves and hydrants under supervision.
• Operate light vehicles to haul supplies and travel to field sites.
• Complete work orders and submit by end of shift.
