Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking a Water System Maintenance Operator II who will operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and loaders to maintain city water systems. The role includes meter work, hydrant repairs, and serving as lead or supervising crew when needed.

Required CDL Class A and safety certifications; strong teamwork and emergency response capabilities are essential. This is a full-time, on-site position within Public Utilities.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid Utah Commercial Drivers License Class A and endorsements as required.
• Minimum years of water system maintenance experience; heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to respond to emergencies including 24-hour call-out.
• Commitment to safety policies and procedures; able to work with the public.
• Certification in required safety and traffic control areas.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump trucks, backhoes, and other equipment for water maintenance.
• Install meters, taps, hydrants, and perform line replacements.
• Repair and restore water services, including restoration work.
• Communicate with customers about service interruptions and timelines.
• Shut down and restore supplies using system valves; locate leaks.
• Assist with permits, inventory, and safety trainings; may supervise crew.
