Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Richmond, VA is seeking a Water Tank Engineer to join the Water & Wastewater Facilities Group. The role covers design, inspection and rehabilitation of water storage tanks, coordinating with clients and project teams to meet budget and schedule.

Candidates should have a BS in Civil or Structural Eng, a Virginia PE or ability to obtain, 5–10 years of relevant experience and proficiency with RISA, AutoCAD or Civil 3D.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months
• 5-10 years of experience in water tank (or similar industrial structure) design, inspection, or rehabilitation
• Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., RISA, AutoCAD, Civil 3D)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently
• Willingness to travel for field work and site inspections

Responsibilities

• Perform structural design and analysis of water storage tanks (elevated, ground, and standpipe types)
• Conduct site inspections, condition assessments, and prepare technical reports
• Prepare design documents, specifications, cost estimates, and engineering calculations
• Develop rehabilitation strategies for existing tank infrastructure, including coatings, structural repairs, and upgrades
• Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards (AWWA, OSHA, local/state building codes)
• Assist with permitting processes and construction administration
• Support business development efforts, including proposals and presentations
