Job summary

The Town of Smithfield, NC is seeking a skilled worker for the installation, replacement and maintenance of water and sewer lines. You will operate taps, load trucks, and use various heavy equipment as part of a crew.

The role requires precision with grades, adherence to safety, and the ability to read utility maps and manuals. Responsibilities include laying pipes, testing meters, and performing field duties under supervision while following safety practices and OSHA guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 2 years’ or fewer experience in plumbing or general construction.
• Ability to read and follow utility line maps and manuals.
• CDL preferred or valid CDL considered advantageous.
• Experience operating heavy and medium construction equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate tapping machine to make water and sewer taps and service connections.
• Lay water and sewer pipe to proper grade and depth.
• Repair and replace water and sewer lines and related facilities.
• Install, service and test water meters and meter yokes.
• Operate and maintain various construction equipment; ensure site safety.
