City of Hickory is seeking a semi-skilled Water Utilities Assistant to perform maintenance, repair and installation work on the water distribution system. The job requires outdoor, heavy manual labor in varying weather conditions and a valid NC Class C driver’s license.

Applicants must be 18+ with a high school diploma or equivalent. Responsibilities include traffic control at job sites, locating underground utilities, repairing mains, installing taps and meters, and performing line cleaning.

Formación

• Read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Flexible schedule including holidays, weekends and during inclement weather.
• Work independently or with a team to perform routine assignments.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid NC driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsabilidades

• Conducts traffic control at jobsites; operates crew vehicle.
• Installs water and sewer taps, services, and mains.
• Assists with loading the dump truck.
• Locates underground utilities.
• Assists in the repair of water main breaks.
• Assists in the installation and repair of water meters, hydrants, valve boxes, water valves, mains, and manholes.
• Performs jetting functions to clean lines.
• Patches utility road cuts.
• Ability to operate a dewatering pump, tamp and various hand tools.
• Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle.
