Job summary

The Town of Smithfield is looking for a semi-skilled worker to assist in the installation, replacement, and maintenance of water and sewer lines and appurtenances as part of a crew.

Responsibilities include operating tapping and excavation equipment, laying and repairing pipes, testing water meters, installing hydrants, and ensuring job-site safety according to procedures. A valid NC driver’s license is preferred and map/manual reading skills are required.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED with related experience.
• Able to read utility line maps and manuals.
• Possession of a valid NC CDL (CDL preferred).

Responsibilities

• Operate tapping machine to make water/sewer taps and connections.
• Lay water/sewer pipe; set grade and depth.
• Repair/replace sewer and water lines and related facilities.
• Install, service and test water meters and meter yokes.
• Operate sewer rodder and jet to clear blockages; handle heavy equipment.
• Maintain safety signs and barricades for work zones.
