Job summary

American Water Works Association is seeking a Line Maintenance Operator I to perform semi-skilled work maintaining water and sewer lines. The role involves excavating, replacing, and repairing, testing, charging, and backfilling lines; work with a crew under instruction and escalate nonstandard issues.

The position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, operate hand and power tools, and follow oral and written instructions.

Qualifications

• Completion of the tenth grade and two years of general labor experience.
• Valid (Class C) driver's license.
• Flagging Certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Repair water and sewer lines including home service lines, meters, hydrants and valves.
• Repair sidewalks, hydrants, water and sewer mains.
• Hand dig to locate underground utilities.
• Maintain equipment and tools used in the work.
• Clean up worksite areas.
• Follow safe work practices.
• Assist with sewage clean ups.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
