Job summary

Howard County Government is seeking a seasoned Utility Worker for the Bureau of Utilities to perform meter reading, maintenance, and related field work. The role includes operating equipment, assisting with meter repairs, and supporting delinquent account services.

You will work on different crews, participate in training, and may handle traffic control. This position is essential and requires compliance with safety and union guidelines.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of hand and power tools operation and care.
• Ability to perform heavy labor for prolonged periods.
• Willingness to work overtime during emergencies or as needed.
• Ability to learn and follow procedures and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Reads residential water meters using electronic devices or manual methods.
• Turns water service off/on for delinquent accounts.
• Coaches and trains Utility Worker I staff.
• Sets up work zone traffic control and directs traffic.
• Emergencies: reports during inclement weather or emergencies.
