Job summary

The City of Pflugerville is seeking a Part-time Swim Instructor to teach lessons and support aquatics programming at Monarch Recreation Center. You will deliver instruction across group and private lessons, school-year programming, and events in indoor and outdoor pools and water features.

A flexible schedule is required to support evenings, weekends, and the school year. Training and certifications in water safety and first aid are encouraged, with some certifications obtainable within 6 months

Qualifications

• Certification in Water Safety Instruction (WSI) or ability to obtain before program start.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
• Must be at least 15 years of age and currently enrolled in high school or have completed high school/GED.
• Experience working with children or teaching in a group setting.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swim lessons and water safety classes across programs and schedules.
• Develop and implement daily lesson plans aligned with program standards.
• Instruct participants in swimming techniques, water safety, and aquatic confidence.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to improve performance.
• Adapt instruction to varying skill levels and learning styles.
• Ensure safe use of facilities, equipment, and areas.
• Communicate with participants, parents, and staff regarding progress and expectations.
• Maintain attendance and progress records.
• Discuss progress with parents.
• Assist with setup, organization, and breakdown of instructional areas and equipment.
• Support aquatics programs, events, and activities as needed.
• Cleans program areas at end of activities and day.
• Attend scheduled in-service training.
• Coordinate with aquatics staff to ensure consistent delivery and safety.
