Gfoat is seeking a part-time swim instructor for the Monarch Recreation Center to teach lessons and support aquatic programming year-round across indoor and outdoor pools. You will deliver group and private instruction, adapt to different ages and abilities, and help with event programming.

The role requires a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, and a minimum age of 15 with a high school credential.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years old and currently enrolled in high school or have completed high school/GED.
  • Experience working with children or teaching in a group setting.
  • ARC Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or ability to obtain before start date.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct swim lessons and water safety classes across programs and schedules.
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans aligned with program standards.
  • Instruct participants in swimming techniques, water safety, and aquatic confidence.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to improve performance.
  • Adapt instruction for varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Ensure safe use of aquatic facilities and equipment.
  • Communicate with participants, parents, and staff about progress and expectations.
  • Maintain attendance and progress records.

Job Summary

Part-time, year-round position responsible for teaching swim lessons and supporting aquatics programming at the Monarch Recreation Center. This position delivers instruction across a wide range of programs, including group lessons, private instruction, school-year programming, and special events. Instructions may take place in multiple aquatic environments, including indoor and outdoor pools and specialized water features. This role requires a flexible schedule to support programming during evenings, weekends, and throughout the school year.

Essential Job Functions and Other Important Duties:
  • Instruct swim lessons and water safety classes across a variety of programs and schedules.
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans that align with established program standards.
  • Instruct participants in proper swimming techniques, water safety skills, and aquatic confidence.
  • Monitor participant progress and provide feedback to improve performance.
  • Adapt instruction methods to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Ensure safe use of aquatic facilities, equipment, and program areas.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff regarding progress and program expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and required report.
  • Discusses students' progress with parents.
  • Assist with setup, organization, and breakdown of instructional areas and equipment.
  • Support aquatics programs, events, and activities as needed.
  • Cleans program areas after completion of activities and at the end of the workday.
  • Attends scheduled in-service training.
  • Coordinate with aquatics staff to ensure consistent program delivery and safety standards
  • Ability to verbally communicate with patrons, the public,and staff effectively.
  • Demonstrates cooperative behavior with the team, supervisor, and the public.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established safety protocols.
  • Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
Job Qualifications

Formal Education: Must be at least 15 years of age and currently enrolled in high school or have completed high school/GED.

Relatable Work Experience: Experience working with children or teaching in a group setting. Candidates must be comfortable in the water and demonstrate the ability to swim proficiently.

Training, Licenses, and Certifications: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification or ability to obtain prior to program start. CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching swim lessons or aquatic programs. Swim team or swim lessons experience. Experience working in high-volume aquatics environments.

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Exposure to water, heat, humidity, and changing weather conditions
Requires swimming, standing, walking, and demonstrating aquatic skills
Flexible part-time schedule including evenings, weekends, and special events
