Description
The City of Caldwell is looking for a Water Safety Instructor to work at the City Pool. The individual teaches people of all ages and varying abilities how to swim and be safe in, on, and around water. Using logical progression, the instructor will cover the knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development, which leads to safer and better swimmers. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and providing quality swimming and water safety instruction. The work environment includes indoor conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and wet and humid conditions.
Responsibilities
- Plans and organizes personal classes, teaching methods, and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.
- Organizes and directs activities of assigned students to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.
- Ensures that all class students are registered and on the class roster prior to beginning class.
- Establishes positive public relations with parents or guardians of class students, helping them recognize and understand swimming developments and achievements.
- Resolves simple complaints related to swimming instruction and refers other complaints to the supervisor.
- Enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities.
- Helps organize and assists in the development of special programs, activities, or instruction.
- Completes and submits records and documentation of completed lessons to the pool manager and the American Red Cross office.
- Works with the pool manager on an ongoing basis to improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective swimming lessons to various age groups and skill levels.
- Maintains patron safety and monitors patron behavior in and around the pool.
- Performs custodial work as necessary, including maintaining a safe pool and deck area.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- One year of lifeguarding or water safety experience.
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior water safety instruction experience.
