Job summary

The Water Institute in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a Project Manager to plan, lead, and shepherd projects from conception to completion with an anticipated January 2027 start. You will serve as the main link between researchers, clients, Institute executives, and stakeholders, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery and defined scope.

Qualified candidates will have a science/engineering background, 5+ years in project-based work, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related field.
• Five years of project-based work experience in water resources, planning, or coastal science/engineering.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and ability to break down complex projects.
• Excellent writing skills to clearly define requirements for staff and stakeholders.
• Strong oral communication for technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a research team and independently when needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Project Manager for projects coordinated with the PMO Manager and Research Directors.
• Manage projects to meet objectives, budget, and scope while seeking efficiencies.
• Develop project management plans after gathering client requirements and validating with teams.
• Lead scope definition processes and obtain sponsor approvals.
• Develop and manage project work breakdown structure, budget, and schedule.
• Initiate and lead project meetings; coordinate communications with stakeholders.
• Work with Grants and Contracts to procure subconsultant services and track deliverables.
• Coordinate changes with clients and partners as required.
• Perform quality control by reviewing scope, schedule, and team coordination.
• Monitor client and partner satisfaction and project costs; report variances.
• Ensure deliverables meet requirements and oversee invoicing as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
