Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Water Resources Intern to join our water resources engineering team, supporting hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for stormwater management on land development projects.

The role provides practical exposure to FEMA floodplain regulations, local stormwater ordinances, and preparation of drainage reports, detention facility designs, and floodplain studies, under supervision.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program, preferably Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions on occasion.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of hydrologic and hydraulic models to support stormwater management design for land development projects.
• Support the design of detention and retention facilities, storm drain systems, and best management practices for residential and commercial sites.
• Assist in preparing drainage reports, floodplain studies, and Letter of Map Revision applications for regulatory submittal.
• Research FEMA floodplain maps, local stormwater ordinances, and watershed data applicable to project sites.
• Utilize hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software to analyze existing and proposed drainage conditions.
• Coordinate with civil engineers and local agencies to support stormwater permitting and plan review comments.
