Job summary

City of Martinsville is accepting applications for a Utility Maintenance Worker (Water Resources) in Martinsville, VA. This entry-level position performs skilled labor in construction, repair, and maintenance of water and sewer facilities under the supervision of the Crew Supervisor.

Responsibilities include operating medium to heavy equipment, placing and finishing concrete, repairing facilities, and setting up work zones.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience with maintenance, repair, and construction methods.
• Experience operating heavy road equipment.
• Knowledge of traffic laws for construction zones.
• Safety knowledge and PPE use is required.
• Ability to read and follow oral or written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Ability to drive and operate equipment.
• Ability to read construction blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Place and finish concrete, lay asphalt, repair drainage and streets.
• Repair and maintain water/sewer facilities.
• Mow and perform grounds maintenance.
• Set up work zones and flag traffic to guide workers.
• Assist with snow/ice removal, storms, and emergencies.
• Operate medium to heavy equipment (skid-steer, backhoe, dump trucks).
• Assist other crews as needed.
• Follow safety and security standards.
