Job summary

American Water seeks a Director of Engineering (Water Resources) to lead the engineering function in the state. Responsibilities include assessing water/wastewater infrastructure, guiding capital investments, and providing technical support to operations for safe, reliable, and affordable service. Travel up to 20% as required.

The role requires a PE license, 15+ years in utility engineering/operations, and 5+ years leading professional staff, with strong leadership and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering; advanced management or technical degree preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in utility engineering and/or utility operations.
• 5+ years of experience managing professional engineering staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct engineering planning activities to assess system risks and opportunities and prioritize capital improvements.
• Develop and oversee a prudently prioritized capital improvement plan (CIP).
• Direct engineering design and construction aligned with the CIP and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and develop the engineering organization and collaborate with operations and other teams.
• Prepare testimony for rate cases, regulatory hearings, and community forums.
