Job summary

The City of DeLand is seeking an Environmental Analyst II to join the Wastewater Treatment Laboratory. This role conducts laboratory analyses of water and wastewater samples in a NELAP-certified facility and performs field work as required.

Under supervision of the Chief Chemist, you will operate lab equipment, prepare reagents, and contribute to reporting and quality assurance. The ideal candidate has an associate or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or environmental science and at least

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Science or related field.
• Minimum three years as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent.
• Equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered for minimum requirements.
• Valid Florida driver's license required.
• First Aid and CPR/AED certification or within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine field sampling and analysis under the general direction of the Chief Environmental Chemist.
• Performs technical work in a NELAP Certified Laboratory.
• Sets up and adjusts laboratory apparatus.
• Assists in the preparation of reagents for bacteriological and chemical analysis.
• Conducts sampling and analyses of drinking water, wastewater, sludge, industrial pretreatment and groundwater.
• Able to perform competent related computer skills.
• Cleans and sterilizes laboratory apparatus and glassware.
• Assists in maintaining laboratory inventory of chemicals, reagents and glassware.
• Assists in the preparation of reports and performs miscellaneous functions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
