Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Associate Chemist I for the Hawthorne Laboratory in Hawthorne, NY. Under supervision, you will collect aqueduct samples and perform laboratory analysis of physical analytes, maintain QC and prepare data for reporting.

Responsibilities include data management, instrument operation, and ensuring safe, compliant lab practices across shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree with 16 semester credits in chemistry and 8 credits in related natural sciences.
• At appointment, a valid License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in NYS is required and must be maintained.
• Education may substitute experience under 30 graduate credits for one year.

Responsibilities

• Aqueduct sample collection.
• Analysis of samples by manual and automated procedures.
• Support functions for efficient lab operations.
• Data reporting and QA/QC activities.
