NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is hiring a Scientist (Water Ecology) II for the Watershed Water Quality Operations-North division in Kingston, NY. The role focuses on field sampling, data collection, and coordinating field activities to support drinking water quality programs.

You will collect samples from streams, reservoirs, and treatment facilities, using boats when required, and handle data in accordance with SOPs.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in environmental or chemical science, limnology, or related field; or
  • Bachelor's with 24 credits in related areas and at least 1 year of relevant field experience; or
  • Associate degree with 24 credits in related areas and at least 3 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field sampling and analyses from a boat as required.
  • Operate vehicles (pickup/trucks) to tow boats and gear.
  • Compile, review, and report water quality data by deadlines.
  • Maintain field sampling equipment and manage QC records.
  • Assist in purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment.
  • Contribute to reports on operational, compliance, and investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety policies.
