Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks a Scientists (Water Ecology) II for the Watershed Water Quality Operations-North division in Kingston, NY. You will perform field sampling, operate boats and trucks, and coordinate data collection to ensure quality and timely reporting of water quality.

Responsibilities include maintaining field equipment, QC data logs, and assisting in procurement and preparation of reports, while complying with environmental, safety rules and DEP

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in environmental/chemical engineering, limnology, environmental science, marine science, geology, biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, or health science.
  • Bachelor's degree with 24 credits in related areas and at least 1 year of field experience in water quality/field sampling.
  • Associate degree with 24 credits in related areas and at least 3 years of field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sampling and field analyses from boats when required.
  • Operate vehicles to tow boats or equipment.
  • Compile, review, and report water quality data per divisional procedures.
  • Maintain field sampling equipment and log QC data.
  • Assist in purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment.
  • Contribute to operational, compliance, and special investigation reports.
  • Follow environmental, health & safety regulations and DEP policies.
