Job summary

The City of Norfolk, VA is seeking a Maintenance Worker II for the Water Production Division to perform general labor, operate equipment, and assist with water treatment tasks. The role includes handling chemicals, equipment fueling, and material handling on-site.

Essential duties include maintenance of waterworks equipment, trench work, and building area upkeep. Regular hours are 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mon–Thu, with Friday mornings off, and potential for extended hours during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Read and understand written instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Education level equivalent to high school or equivalent.
• One year experience as a Maintenance Worker, or completion of the Operations Apprentice program.
• Valid Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Repairing water pipelines and equipment such as chemical feeds, water filters, and sedimentation basins.
• Delivering and applying chemicals, washing sedimentation basins, and maintaining building areas.
• Digs and refills trenches and other excavations.
• Cuts asphalt and concrete.
• Loads, unloads, lifts and carries tools, equipment, and chemicals.
• Makes minor repairs to underground water service lines.
