Job summary

The City of Norfolk’s Water Production Division seeks a Utility Maintenance Mechanic I to independently maintain and repair water pipelines and equipment. You will inspect daily, document operating conditions, and prepare performance reports while maintaining manuals and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year in machinery repair and two years preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge to understand basic operational and technical processes.
• One year in machinery repair or maintenance required.
• Two years of machinery repair or maintenance experience preferred.
• Valid Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor overhauls, repairs, replacement and maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, chemical feeders, hydraulic equipment, mixers and other water treatment equipment.
• Performs inspections daily; verifies and documents operating system conditions.
• Maintains records and prepares reports on machinery and activities.
• Must be able to read manuals and troubleshoot problems.
