Job summary

The City of Norfolk, VA is seeking a diligent Utility Maintenance Mechanic II to perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on heavy machinery and water meters. The role involves repairs, data reporting, and supporting plant operations within the Utilities Department.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of machinery repair experience, with 2+ years preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to work extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year experience in machinery repair and operation preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in machinery repair and operation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Overhauls, replaces, reads, maintains and tests 5/8" to 10" water meters.
• Connects/disconnects water service; repairs valves, meters and lines.
• Perform preventive maintenance on heavy machinery and equipment; inspect and service meter equipment.
• Troubleshoot issues causing non-registering meters or leaks at meter sites.
• Repair water service and distribution lines; replace worn parts as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare weekly/monthly reports on equipment and activities.
