Job summary

City of Mt. Pleasant seeks a Water Plant Operator to learn, grow, and contribute to the water treatment plant and distribution system. The role requires mechanical, electrical, and laboratory skills, with a high school diploma and driving privileges. Training opportunities and tuition reimbursement help maintain licensure with EGLE requirements.

This full-time position pays hourly with shift premiums, and offers on-the-job training and career development within the Water Department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with coursework in mathematics, chemistry, lab processes and computer usage.
• WPO must have mechanical and electrical skills, plumbing knowledge, blueprint reading, and math/chemistry understanding.

Responsibilities

• Install, operate, maintain, and repair water treatment plant and distribution equipment.
• Maintain records and perform EGLE laboratory testing related to plant operation.
• Operate department computers and generate required reports.
• Respond to citizen requests and supervise/train others as shift team leader.
• Able to work varied schedules and handle emergency call-ins.
