Job summary

Superior Water, Light and Power, Inc. is seeking a Water Plant Operator to ensure safe, reliable operation and maintenance of the drinking water plant and related facilities in Superior, Wisconsin.

The role requires rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and nights, with potential on-call duties. Candidates must meet WDNR certification criteria or obtain certification within six months of start date; SWL&P sponsors one exam. DOT regulations apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year or more demonstrated experience maintaining water treatment and/or distribution equipment as a surface or ground water treatment plant operator, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
• Must be able to successfully complete a physical work screen.
• Shift work and frequently working alone is required.
• This position may be subject to DOT PHMSA Regulations.
• Residency within 40 minutes from the reporting location.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a drinking water plant and auxiliary facilities to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and nights; may be on-call or standby.
• Make decisions based on device readings and instrument data.
• Direct actions during emergencies and act as a contact for after-hours dispatching.
