Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency is seeking a hands-on operator to support plant operations, laboratory testing, and equipment maintenance in Lake Bluff, IL. You will work under the Operations Manager and Chief Operator, gaining skills to operate the plant safely and reliably.

The role involves night shifts (6:00 pm–6:00 am) with potential day-shift coverage for training, data entry, and routine testing. On-the-job training leads to IEPA Operator certification and career growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Comfortable with night shift (6:00 pm – 6:00 am) and occasional day shifts.
• Moderate physical work including lifting, turning heavy valves, and climbing.
• Basic math and ability to learn water treatment chemistry.
• Computer data entry and learning new software systems.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor treatment processes to meet water quality and production goals.
• Adjust plant flows and equipment settings to meet changing customer demand.
• Verify chemical dosing and ensure treatment systems remain within required parameters.
• Collect and analyze laboratory samples and perform routine testing.
• Assist with maintenance work orders, calibration, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
• Maintain plant security and clean assigned areas.
• Maintain accurate computer-based logs, operating data, and reports.
• Support the operations team by communicating issues and responding to process questions.
