Job summary

City of Columbia is seeking a Water Plant RTE Maintenance Technician I in the Utilities division. The role covers operation, repair, and maintenance of remote site assets such as water tanks, pump stations and PRVs, with heavy physical demands and safety-focused procedures.

Trainees will enroll in the Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program and complete benchmarks. Responsibilities include inspecting and repairing equipment, keeping accurate work records, attending trainings, and providing

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• No prior experience required for entry level trainee positions.
• Must obtain FMCSA medical examiner's certificate within 30 days from hire.
• Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.
• Must obtain a South Carolina Class A CDL within one year from hire or transfer.
• Must complete AP benchmarks by noted deadlines.
• Pay grade depends on certifications, education and work experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, operates, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs equipment;
• Assists with construction and installation projects as assigned;
• Prepares and maintains accurate work records;
• Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety;
• Attends meetings, as appropriate, and training to enhance job knowledge and skills;
• Is considered essential staff during emergencies and may work long hours or several days at times;
• May be required to work nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed;
• Must be on call 24-hours per day during on-call weeks; on-call is rotated;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
