Job summary

City of Columbia, SC is seeking personnel to operate, repair and maintain water assets at remote sites, including water tanks, pump stations and PRVs. The role includes training through the Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program and may involve night, weekend, and on-call duties.

The position requires basic math, the ability to read manuals, and physical stamina to lift up to 100 pounds frequently. Entry-level trainee through higher technician levels are offered with pay grades 107–110

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement is a high school diploma or GED.
• Basic math skills required for daily tasks and record keeping.
• Ability to read journals and manuals and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment at remote sites.
• Assist with construction and installation projects as assigned.
• Prepare and maintain accurate work records.
• Perform duties in accordance with policies, procedures, regulations and safety standards.
• Attend meetings and training to enhance knowledge and skills.
• May be required to work long hours during emergencies and be on call 24/7.
• Occasionally work nights, weekends or holidays to complete tasks.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
