Job summary

The City of Columbia SC is seeking a maintenance technician to operate, repair and maintain water system assets at remote sites such as water tanks, pump stations and PRVs. This role also includes grounds maintenance and participation in the Apprenticeship Program.

Applicants must meet safety standards, obtain the required medical certificate and licenses, and be ready to work flexible hours including nights and weekends when required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required for entry level trainee positions.
• Must obtain FMCSA medical examiner's certificate within 30 days of hire.
• Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License; able to obtain Class A CDL within one year.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
• Assist with construction and installation projects as assigned.
• Prepare and maintain accurate work records.
• Perform duties in accordance with policies and safety standards.
• Attend meetings and training to enhance knowledge and skills.
• Be available as essential staff during emergencies and may work long hours or on-call shifts.
• Work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
