Job summary

City of Columbia SC seeks a lead technician for the water treatment plant who will supervise maintenance crews and perform inspections and repairs. You will coordinate preventive maintenance on plant equipment and support construction projects while ensuring safety and compliance.

The role requires leadership, several licenses, and the ability to manage records and inventory. Applicants must meet SC licensing timelines and apply best practices in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five (5) years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License
• Must possess a valid South Carolina Class “A” Driver’s License within one (1) year from date of hire.
• Must possess a “C” Water Treatment License, or be able to obtain an “A” Water Treatment License within 2 years from the date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, maintains and repairs equipment and systems at the assigned City water treatment plant.
• Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical and electronic plant equipment as scheduled; maintains related records.
• Inspects, troubleshoots and repairs equipment.
• Assists with construction and installation projects as assigned.
• Performs general building and grounds maintenance and repair work as required.
• Assists in maintaining parts and supply inventory.
• Prepares and maintains accurate work records.
• Provides instruction and leadership of assigned crew members; reviews work for completeness and accuracy.
• Provides direct support to the Water Plant Maintenance Supervisor and serves in their absence as team leader for the maintenance group.
• Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
