Job summary

City of Stoughton is seeking a skilled Water Operator to ensure safe drinking water through sampling, testing, and system monitoring. You will operate and maintain the water distribution systems, pumps, and storage facilities, with emphasis on reliability and customer service.

This essential position includes standby duties and potential citywide emergency calls. A CDL with tanker/airbrake endorsements and a background check are required; join a team dedicated to high-quality public utilities in

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One or more years of water operator experience preferred.
• CDL with tanker and airbrake endorsements required.
• Demonstrated mechanical and/or plumbing aptitude.
• Must pass background check, driver’s license check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Support safe drinking water through routine sampling, testing, monitoring, and SCADA operation.
• Maintain and repair water distribution infrastructure including mains, valves, pumps, hydrants, and service connections.
• Perform lab testing and analysis, prepare reports, and adjust system operations based on test results.
• Maintain and calibrate equipment, complete required documentation, and conduct routine system inspections.
• Respond to customer inquiries, assist with public outreach, and participate in standby/on-call rotation and emergency response.
