Job summary

Carson City Public Works is seeking a full-time Meter Maintenance Technician to read and install water meters, verify readings, and support conservation efforts. The role involves locating addresses, programming meters, repairing leaks, and assisting with hydrant and valve maintenance in Carson City.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of customer service experience. Certification requirements apply, and on-call duty may be required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Water Distribution Systems.
• Knowledge of Meter Services rules, regulations, policies, and operating procedures.
• Knowledge of meter equipment used by the City.
• Knowledge of Basic mathematics.
• Knowledge of Geography of the City.
• Knowledge of Principles and techniques of customer service.
• Knowledge of Tools and equipment used in the trade.

Responsibilities

• Reads and records consumption of residential and commercial water meters with mobile and hand-held reading devices.
• Installs new water meters 4” and smaller; records meter and account information.
• Assists in repairs of main line leaks and in hydrant maintenance.
• Locates service addresses and verifies meter numbers.
• Turns off services for delinquent accounts and manages lockouts.
• Loads and unloads data to and from meter reading systems and billing software.
• Answers customers' questions and provides general information regarding water meters.
• Performs facility inspections of new developments for readiness of meter installation.
