Job summary

Consolidated Municipality of Carson City is seeking a full-time, non-exempt position in the Carson City Public Works department focused on meter maintenance, customer response, and conservation awareness related to water services.

The role includes meter readings, installation of new meters, leak repairs, hydrant and valve maintenance, and on-call duties after required certifications are obtained. Nevada PERS retirement plans apply to eligible employees.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and records consumption of residential and commercial water meters with mobile and hand-held reading devices
  • Installs new water meters 4” and smaller; records meter and account information and initiates new services; programs water meters when necessary
  • Assists in the repairs of main line leaks when necessary
  • Assists in fire hydrant maintenance
  • Assists in distribution valve maintenance
  • Locates service addresses and verifies meter numbers
  • Repairs leaks on water meters 4” and smaller by replacing washers, tightening connections, and replacing fittings
  • Checks meters of various sizes for stuck dials and inoperable parts
  • Turns off services for delinquent accounts

Job description

This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Carson City Public Works. Under general supervision, performs specialized duties in the meter maintenance, customer response, and conservation awareness units relating to water services.

Individuals may choose between the following PERS Retirement plans:
  • (Employer-Paid PERS) $25.3617 - $35.5064 hourly / $52,752.44 - $73,853.26 annually
  • (Employee/Employer-Paid PERS) $30.5960 - $42.8345 hourly / $63,639.68 - $89,095.76 annually
