Job summary

The City of New York’s Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Water Use Inspector - Assignment Level I to inspect, read and manage water meters and AMR equipment across the city’s water network.

Under supervision, you will ensure compliance with water supply regulations, serve violations notices, and document readings for billing. A high school diploma and related experience are required, with a probationary period of 24 months.

Qualifications

• The candidate must have a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and six months of related experience.
• Experience with water meters, meter reading or inspection of related equipment is preferred.
• Probationary period of at least 24 months applies for Assignment Level I.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, repair, replace and install water meters and AMR equipment.
• Enter readings and condition codes into portable devices and forms.
• Inspect plumbing for cross-connections and hazards to the water supply.
• Monitor contractor work for compliance with rules and regulations.
