Job summary

County of Hawai‘i is seeking a Meter Reader to read and record water meter readings across assigned routes. The role includes clerical tasks, data handling, and public interaction to explain policies and resolve issues.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and clerical experience; an associate degree can substitute for experience. A valid Hawaii driver’s license is required. The position offers a permanent full‑time opportunity with benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Two years of clerical experience, some public interaction.
• Substitution: Associates degree or higher may substitute for clerical experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Read water meters manually or with handheld/automatic devices and record readings.
• Upload/download route data, print variance reports and monitor consumption.
• Interact with the public regarding policies, read meters on routes, and handle related clerical tasks.
• Prepare fieldwork orders, requisitions, and maintain accurate records and forms.
• Investigate complaints, assist in service connections, and perform related duties.
