County of Hawai‘i in South Kohala seeks a full-time Water Meter Reader to read meters, record data, and support field operations. The role involves clerical tasks, customer interaction, and data management to ensure accurate billing and service documentation.

Responsibilities include processing applications for water service, handling payments, and maintaining records. A high school diploma and clerical experience are required; a Hawaii driver’s license is needed to operate vehicles on routes.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in office practices and record-keeping.
• Ability to read meters and operate a vehicle to read meters on assigned routes.
• Ability to deal tactfully with the public and follow written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Read water meters and record readings manually or with handheld/automatic meter reading devices.
• Upload route data to handheld device and download completed data files.
• Print variance reports and compare consumption figures with past readings.
• Advise consumers on policies and regulations; may trim shrubs or grass to read meters.
• Prepare daily fieldwork reports and process forms, records, and applications for accuracy.
