City of Columbia is seeking a capable supervisor for the Water System Improvement Division. The role involves coordinating maintenance, customer service, meter reading and data management while leading a team under general supervision.
The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 10 years of relevant experience, and a SC Driver’s License, with a preferred SC Water Distribution Operator Class A. Work includes field and administrative duties within a municipal water system.
This position coordinates and supervises assigned functions of the Water System Improvement Division, which may include the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of the City’s water distribution system or customer service, meter reading and maintenance, data management and materials control operations; and performs other technical, administrative and supervisory work as required. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
The work is considered light in nature and involves walking or standing much of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: balancing, climbing, grasping, hearing, mental acuity, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Work environment may involve exposure to bright / dim light, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, dusts and pollen, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, confined spaces, disease/pathogens, toxic / caustic chemicals, dangerous gases; and involves critical situations that require major decisions involving people, resources, and property.
