Job summary

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking several regular Water Pipe Workers to support the Water Transmission and Distribution Division. These positions report to Water Pipe Crew Chiefs and involve maintenance, installation and operation of the water system.

Work locations include four reporting sites around Seattle and King County. Applicants should have 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent apprenticeship, a valid WA driver's license, and the ability to obtain a CDL Class B within

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in installation, maintenance or repair of water mains or related systems.
• Completion of the Water Pipe Worker Apprenticeship or equivalent; evaluated for minimum experience.
• Valid Washington Driver’s License; CDL Class B within four months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Plan renewal and installation of water services and large meters per federal safe water guidelines.
• Perform service turn-ons/offs; locate leaks; maintain hydrants and fire systems.
• Excavate and backfill streets using jackhammers, backhoes and other equipment.
• Establish traffic control at work sites per guidelines.
• Maintain inventory of tools and materials and prepare for jobs.
• Operate service trucks and other equipment and inspect vehicles.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed.
