Job summary

Seattle Public Utilities is seeking a high-impact Transmission Section Manager to lead the Water Transmission section of the Water Transmission and Distribution Maintenance Division. You will oversee crews, manage substantial budgets, and guide strategic infrastructure decisions to ensure reliable water delivery for Seattle.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience in a water distribution/transmission system, including supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related field, or two additional years of relevant experience.
• Current Water Distribution Management III (WDM III) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Ability to manage large budgets and complex workflows.
• Strong communication and collaboration across diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and strategic direction for installation, maintenance, and repair of water infrastructure; serve on Division Leadership Team.
• Supervise subordinate supervisors; direct 25 FTEs in Water Transmission and Distribution.
• Manage substantial budgets with diverse funding sources and contracts.
• Provide technical guidance on maintenance, repair, and operation of the water system.
• Monitor and achieve performance metrics.
• Develop policy options and recommendations for policy issues and implementation plans.
• Serve as SME; supervise technical staff with high-impact service.
• Represent the City on external issues; foster external relationships and public involvement.
• Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to achieve outcomes.
