Job summary

Fairfax Water is seeking an experienced engineering leader to oversee the design of water transmission and distribution mains and related facilities. You will manage consultants and staff, supervise contracts, and ensure compliance with project objectives.

Responsibilities include coordinating with stakeholders, developing bid documents, leading standard design details, and guiding regulatory approvals. A strong background in water utility projects and team leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
• 10+ years of working experience including 3+ years supervisory
• Licensed Professional Engineer (Virginia) or eligibility by reciprocity within 6 months
• Extensive experience in design and construction of water utility infrastructure
• Strong collaboration with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD and ArcGIS preferred
• Must pass a drug test

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, coordinate, and manage design of water transmission and distribution mains and appurtenant facilities
• Oversee engineering services contracts including RFPs, scopes, fees, and contracts administration
• Review design submittals for compliance with project objectives
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and project end users
• Develop bid and contract documents for water main installation and service contracts in Fairfax Water
• Oversee development of standard design details and construction specifications
• Lead permits, easements, and regulatory approvals
• Represent Fairfax Water at meetings with boards and planning bodies
• Prepare cost estimates and support CIP budget
• Support construction-phase engineering activities and RFI responses
• Chairs or delegates AP Committee and updates Approved Products List
• Manage engineering archives and records system
• Analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions
• Manage multiple teams and resources
• Foster professional development of staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
