Job summary

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. in Saint Louis, MO, is seeking an Assistant Business Unit Leader (Water) to guide the Water Division. You will mentor staff, drive client development, and shape long-term strategy in a collaborative, employee-owned firm.

The role requires 10+ years of experience, PE license, and strong project leadership. You’ll coordinate with other divisions, review budgets, and ensure high-quality deliverables while expanding market presence.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer.
Experience in drinking water, wastewater and/or stormwater design.
Ability to lead, manage and schedule staff to meet project needs.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

Assist with workload projections and resources to ensure commitments are fulfilled.
Review invoices, cost data, schedules, and budgets for timely completion.
Coordinate with business development to maintain backlog.
Identify and convert new business opportunities to contract backlog.
Direct relationship building and contracting between firm and clients; cross-sell services.
Monitor quality and conformance to client requirements of work products.
Participate in environmental engineering calculations and construction drawings.
Prepare contract proposals and cost estimates.
Oversee production of project documents (reports, drawings, specs).
Monitor project schedules and budgets.
Coordinate projects with other business units.
