Job summary

Lake County Department of Utilities is seeking a Water Distribution Maintenance worker to handle repair, maintenance, and inspection of the water distribution system. The role requires responding to emergencies, locating leaks, connecting pipes, and maintaining records in all weather.

This full-time position will involve outdoor labor, operating heavy equipment and coordinating with public officials and the community. CDL and water licenses are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Requires construction experience including excavations, waterline, valve and hydrant repair and installation, service connections and meter setting.
• Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with coworkers, officials and the public.
• Position requires physical labor outdoors in all weather and emergency call-out 24/7 including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergencies and safely operate and maintain the water distribution system.
• Locate and repair buried pipes and leaks.
• Make pipe connections and flush and clean pipes.
• Keep accurate records.
• Work safely in streets and protect road users and pedestrians.
• Perform shop, vehicle and equipment maintenance duties.
• Operate dump truck and heavy equipment (backhoes, mini excavators).
