Job summary

The City of San Diego, through the Public Utilities Department, seeks an Assistant Director of the Water Delivery Branch to lead Water Production, Distribution and Water Meter Services. You will oversee operations for a large municipal water system serving 1.3M+ customers and manage a sizeable workforce.

The role requires strong leadership, budgeting, regulatory coordination and a focus on customer service and performance excellence within a political environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, engineering, planning, or a related field.
• Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial experience and experience managing large water or wastewater utilities.
• Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates these qualifications may be qualifying.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Water Delivery Branch’s efforts to strengthen accountability and proactive asset management.
• Provide leadership for customer service and customer satisfaction.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Water Delivery Branch.
• Manage diversity and encourage high performing teams.
• Represent the Department before governing bodies and negotiate with water agencies.
• Cultivate relationships with regulatory agencies to meet requirements.
• Prepare the Branch’s annual operating, capital outlay and personnel budget.
