Job summary

City of Fredericksburg, Virginia seeks an Assistant Director of Public Utilities to lead water distribution and sanitary sewer conveyance and treatment operations within the Department of Public Utilities. You will guide daily activities, set departmental goals, oversee maintenance, and manage system renovations and replacements.

This role partners on budgets, capital improvement projects, and regulatory reporting, and involves presenting operations to City Council.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
• Six to nine years of progressive, responsible experience in public utilities operations and administration or equivalent.
• Valid Virginia state driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

Responsibilities

• Guiding department operations and collaborating on the development of departmental goals and objectives; managing utility maintenance and overseeing system renovations and replacements.
• Assisting in the development and monitoring of department operational budgets and capital improvement projects; serving on the project team for the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant renovation.
• Overseeing daily utilities operations and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
• Preparing and collaborating on regulatory reports and presenting department operations and projects to City Council and other stakeholder groups.
