Job summary

City of San Diego seeks an Assistant Director of the Water Delivery Branch to lead Water Production, Water Distribution, and Water Meter Services. This senior role directs operations of a major municipal water system with extensive pipelines, reservoirs, treatment plants, and thousands of connections.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing large utilities, strategic leadership, and a commitment to public service and fiscal responsibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, engineering, planning, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible managerial experience managing large water or wastewater utilities.
• Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates these qualifications may be qualifying.

Responsibilities

• Lead accountability and asset management initiatives.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Water Delivery Branch.
• Represent the department before City bodies and negotiate with water agencies.
• Develop and manage annual operating, capital outlay and personnel budgets.
• Foster diversity and high-performing teams.
