Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2-3 years of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water, wastewater, and pesticides.
• 2-4 years of experience operating heavy equipment, pipe fitting, and plumbing principles.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training acceptable.
• CDL with Tanker Endorsement required upon hire or promotion.
• ADEQ Grade 2 Wastewater Collections certification and Grade 1 in a supporting field within 1 year.
• ADEQ Grade 2 Water Distribution certification and Grade 1 in a supporting field within 1 year.
• Pesticide Applicator's License may be required within one year depending on assignment.
• NASSCO Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and train crews on installation, maintenance, and repair of the Town's wastewater system.
• Operate heavy equipment including dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, CCTV, and sewer cleaners.
• Monitor and troubleshoot wastewater and reclaimed water systems; recommend preventive actions.
• Inspect and repair collection assets such as gravity mains, force mains, manholes, and lift stations.
• Respond to emergencies and after-hours calls on a 24-hour, on-call basis.

We Are Seeking Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Wastewater Utility Worker III. The Wastewater Utility Worker III reports to the Wastewater Utility Supervisor. The primary functions of this position include:

• Coordinating and training crews on the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Town's wastewater system
• Operating heavy equipment — including dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, CCTV equipment, and combination sewer cleaners
• Monitoring and troubleshooting wastewater and reclaimed water distribution systems, recommending corrective actions and preventive maintenance
• Inspecting and repairing collection assets such as gravity mains, force mains, manholes, and lift stations
• Responding to emergencies and after-hours callouts on a 24‑hour, on‑call basis

This is an FLSA Non‑Exempt, at‑will position with the Town of Gilbert.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• 2‑3 years of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water, wastewater, and pesticides
• 2‑4 years of experience operating heavy equipment, pipe fitting, and plumbing principles and practices
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities
• Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement (no air brake restrictions), required upon hire or promotion
• Wastewater Collections assignment: ADEQ Grade 2 Wastewater Collections certification, plus a Grade 1 in a supporting field within 1 year
• Wastewater Reuse/Recharge assignment: ADEQ Grade 2 Water Distribution certification, plus a Grade 1 in a supporting field within 1 year
• Pesticide Applicator's License from the Arizona Office of Pest Management may be required within one year, depending on assignment area
• NASSCO Certification for pipe and manhole assessment preferred

This position has been designated as a Heavy work position that spends a majority of its workday in a field/outdoor environment.
